MARRIAGE REQUIREMENTS
The following rules and guidelines apply to getting married in St. Maarten:
The couple must submit a marriage request at least 14 days before the scheduled ceremony with the following documents:
- A birth certificate of both parties to prove the legality of same, these documents should be provided with an “Apostille Stamp.”
- Unmarried persons must be present a declaration of marital status not older than 3 months.
- Persons must be at the least 18 years of age otherwise permission from the parents is required.
- Address of both parties
- Duration of stay on St. Maarten
- Names of parents, if still alive
- If widow(er), a death certificate
- If divorced, a divorce certificate
- A valid passport for foreigners
You will need six witnesses if the marriage is performed outside of the Marriage Hall. Two witnesses if the marriage same takes place in the Marriage Hall.
All documents must be notorized originals.
Original document in languages other than Dutch or English need to be translated into the Dutch language. (i.e. a French document must be translated into Dutch, not English)
Marriages will be performed after all documents are found correct by the Civil Registrar.
